Enforced and Unenforced Policies Update

Dear SJSU Advising Community,

On Thursday, August 26, 2010, the email message below was sent to SJSU advisors.  While the email answered questions for many of you, it generated additional questions for others.  Specifically, the subject line of the message read “Enforced and Unenforced Policies”, and created some confusion.  It is important for advisors to understand the difference between the terms "not enforceable at the point of registration by PeopleSoft" and "not enforceable at the point of graduation check by graduation evaluators".  Policies that are not enforced by PeopleSoft may still be enforced by graduation evaluators at the time of the graduation check.

PeopleSoft will not enforce the requirement that students who began continuous enrollment in Fall 2005 or later take SJSU Studies courses from three different departments.  Though PeopleSoft will not enforce this policy, graduation evaluators will enforce this when they complete the graduation evaluation.

Although PeopleSoft does enforce the requirement that students pass the WST/Level 1 of the GWAR prior to enrolling in SJSU Studies, PeopleSoft will not enforce some SJSU Studies prerequisites (completion of core GE and completion of 100W for students who began continuous enrollment in Fall 2005 or later).  If students complete 100W (area Z) after completing areas R, S, or V, the graduation evaluators will not penalize them or require them to take additional classes.
